Recreation and Wellness offers summer fitness opportunities

  • Group fitness classes: May 18-August 5 on Zoom; open to students, faculty, staff.
  • Creative Fitness Challenge: Submit five creative at-home exercises, 30-60 seconds, for a chance to win prizes and be featured on social media.
  • Esports: Register May 18-27 for League of Legends, Rocket League tournament, or 8-Ball iPhone League.
  • Virtual 5k: Register May 18-28 for June race. Quarantine Quiz Show: Tune in every Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT; open to universities throughout U.S. and Canada. Twitch account required.

To: The Emory University Community

While our facilities remain closed, we are continuing to support your wellbeing. We’ve shared ways on our social media for you to stay active and engaged. I encourage you to participate in some or all of our programs listed below. These programs are free and no facility membership is required.

Fitness Programs

Our offerings are posted by 9 a.m. weekday mornings on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

  • Mobility Monday:Learn ways to increase range of motion.
  • HIIT Tuesday:High intensity interval training class.
  • Tune Up Thursday:Release some stress with yoga and meditation.
  • Friday Fitness Challenge:End the week by participating in fun mental and physical challenges.

Longer workouts are posted on our Recreation and Wellness YouTube channel, including Tabata, XFIT, kickboxing and more.

2020 Recreation Movement Challenge

Emory Recreation and Wellness has also joined the virtual 2020 Recreation Movement Challenge, featuring access to fitness programs at more than 70 colleges and universities. Emory students, faculty and staff can join the challenge through May 31 using their emory.edu email address.

Sports Fitness Camp

Sports Fitness Camp 2020 is canceled. We are currently working with our camp registration company to process full refunds. While we are greatly disappointed that we will not get to see your children this summer, we hope that you choose Emory Sports Fitness Camp in the future!

Recreation & Wellness COVID-19 FAQ


Which facilities are closed?

The Woodruff P.E. Center (WPEC), Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC), and all outdoor athletic and recreational facilities closed for recreational use at 8:00pm on Monday March 16th, 2020.  

When will the facilities reopen?

At this time, we do not know when our facilities will reopen.

Are the SAAC Cafe or Mail Services open?

Please review http://www.mailservices.emory.edu/ and http://www.emory.edu/dining/ for hours of operation.

Will I pay for membership during the facility closure?

No.

Will payroll deductions for membership continue during the closure?

No. Payroll deductions for memberships to the Woodruff P.E. Center (WPEC) and Student Activity & Academic Center will not be processed for the duration of the facility closure. Members will see a final deduction on their March paycheck for their benefits prior to the closure, but will not see a deduction on their following paychecks during the closure. Payroll deduction for membership will resume after the facility reopens.

Will I receive a credit if I paid in full for membership?

Yes. Expiration dates for memberships paid in full will be extended for the number of days equal to the duration of the WPEC and SAAC facility closure. For example, if the facilities are closed for 30 days, the expiration date of all memberships will be extended by 30 days.

Should I cancel my membership while the facility is closed?

No. You do not need to cancel your membership.

Will I pay for my locker during the facility closure?

No.

Will payroll deductions for locker rentals continue during the closure?

No. Payroll deductions for lockers at the WPEC will not be processed for the duration of the facility closure. How can I collect my personal belongings?

Please visit the WPEC or SAAC on March 17th-March 20th between 9am-12pm.

Do I have to clean out my locker by Friday March 20th?

No, however you may not be able to access the building past March 20th to retrieve your belongings. If you leave your belongings in your locker, you will have an opportunity to retrieve your belongings when the facilities reopen.

What if my locker expires while the facility is closed?

You will have the opportunity to retrieve your belongings or renew your locker.

 

Will there be virtual or digital programming?

Update 5/1: Please follow Recreation & Wellness on social media for our virtual programs. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube.

Will there be Sports Fitness Camp this Summer?

I have Personal Training sessions that expire soon. Will the expiration date be extended?

Yes. Expiration dates for personal training sessions will be extended for the number of days equal to the duration of the WPEC and SAAC facility closure. For example, if the facilities are closed for 30 days, the expiration date of all personal training sessions will be extended by 30 days.

I registered for intramural sports for Spring 2020. What do I do?

We are contacting captains to process refunds for the upcoming softball, volleyball, kickball and futsal seasons.

I had a Spring 2020 group fitness pass. What options do I have?

We are actively developing additional programs and resources to support your physical well-being. More information will be available soon.

Where will classes be meeting?

Beginning March 23rd, Emory University is moving to remote learning. If you have not been contacted by your instructor(s) by Monday March 23rd, please contact john.ridgway@emory.edu.

To: Emory University Athletic Facilities Rental Clients

On behalf of Emory Athletics, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we navigated the unprecedented challenges this semester presented.  Many of you have reached out with questions and concerns regarding your Summer camps and clinics, and we would like to provide you with the following updates so you can plan accordingly.

Summer 2020 Camps and Clinics

On Friday, April 10, 2020, Jan Love, Emory University’s Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, announced “All other university events and gatherings, both on and off campus, should be canceled, postponed and moved to virtual events.”  The full announcement can be found here.  Consequently, all Summer 2020 camps and clinics hosted in athletic facilities are cancelled. 

Please know that the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and guests are our top priority, and we express our sincere condolences on the anticipated financial impact of this decision.  We also know that you may have many questions regarding what comes next, so please see below for our list of frequently asked questions. 

Facility Rentals


No. Due to our athletic, academic, and recreational schedule, we do not rent facility space to external clients during the academic year.

Yes. We look forward to working with you in Summer 2021! We are not currently booking Summer 2021 at this time, but we will reach out in the coming months to discuss future facility rentals.

Yes. We will start processing refunds as soon as possible. Individual emails will be sent out to clients who qualify for a refund.

We will send individual emails to all clients in the next few weeks to cancel Summer 2020 contracts and contract addendums for athletic facility rental.

No. Emory University will not compensate any lost revenue or non-refundable expenses paid to third parties.

TO: Woodruff P.E. Center and Student Activity & Academic Center Members

As you are all aware, the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve rapidly, and we are continuing to take steps to keep you safe.

In support of Emory’s social distancing practices, at 8:00pm today, Monday March 16, the Woodruff P.E. Center (WPEC), Student Activity & Academic Center (SAAC) and all Recreation and Wellness Programs will be closed until further notice. The WPEC and SAAC will allow members to enter the facility to remove any personal belongings from lockers during the hours of 9 a.m. - 12p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20.

The SAAC lobby will remain open 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. through Sunday March 22, for Emory University Dining and Mail Services to support students moving out of the Clairmont campus. All seating areas will be closed.

Our Recreational and Wellness team will provide more information in the coming days on other options to help you stay physically active and resilient during these challenging times.  Our main objective is to keep everyone as healthy and safe as possible. 

Thank you for your continued commitment to helping us work through this difficult situation. Additional plans and details will be shared in the coming days and weeks.
