Campus Life Team,
Greetings. As you know, there has been tremendous effort across campus as the university ramps up for reopening and facilitating students’ return this fall. I’m writing to provide an update on the formation of our Campus Life working groups to support that effort.
Purpose and structure As you may recall from previous communications, Campus Life working groups have specific responsibilities to support various areas of the student experience, staff engagement, and staff development.
What do working groups do? Some working groups will play pivotal operational roles – from new student orientation to the reopening of campus this fall and the return of Emory graduate and undergraduate students. The groups will also help to increase communication flow across Campus Life units.
Other working groups are assigned to functional or executive areas that Campus Life staff are a part of, such as health monitoring, contract tracing, etc. Staff may be assigned to groups that are led by their respective ELT member or to other groups. Working group staff are expected to deliver regular updates to the ELT member who leads their group, as well as their own ELT member.
How do you get involved with a working group? If you are interested in participating in a specific working group, discuss it with your supervisor. With their approval, you may nominate yourself. Ultimately, the working group leads will determine membership. The attachment lists the working groups, their charges, and membership.
Many Campus Life staff members have asked how they can help with the university's return to campus other than serving on a working group. Individuals can contribute by supporting the work of the groups (e.g., conducting research on behalf of group members or assisting with implementation).
Below are additional ways to provide support that don't require group membership:
Closing As always, your hard work and ongoing support are profoundly appreciated and absolutely essential to reopening our campus and ensuring that, despite the challenges imposed by COVID-19, the Emory experience offers an array of meaningful opportunities for our students to grow and thrive.
Sincerely,
Enku Gelaye
