July 27, 2021 Whitehead-LaBoo and Yang lead CAPS
Effective July 20, associate directors Cynthia Whitehead-LaBoo and Jane Yang began serving as co-executive directors of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) following the announcement by Wanda Collins, assistant vice president of Campus Life and executive director of CAPS, that she will depart Emory this fall. A national search will be launched to identify a permanent replacement.
Whitehead-LaBoo and Yang said in a joint statement that they “are honored to share the responsibility of leading CAPS during this time of transition. We are working closely together to ensure seamless delivery of services to our Emory students and collaboration with the university community.”
The two longtime colleagues meet regularly with each other and Collins to ensure a smooth transition for CAPS staff and campus partners. Under their leadership, CAPS’ internal and external operations continue as usual, maintaining stability and consistency during these challenging times worldwide. Both co-executive directors report to Enku Gelaye, vice president and dean of Campus Life and serve on the dean’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
Whitehead-Laboo is leading internal operations:
Yang is leading external operations:
Whitehead-LaBoo joined CAPS in 1993 and has served as associate director of clinical services since 2007. Yang joined CAPS in 2006, serving since 2014 as associate director of outreach. Both hold PhDs and are licensed psychologists and adjunct clinical associate professors of psychology with Emory. Read more about them on the CAPS website staff page.
“During our transition to a new CAPS executive director, Campus Life is committed to maintaining the highest standard of service to Emory students,” said Gelaye. “We are fortunate to have in Cynthia and Jane two veteran CAPS professionals whose dedicated leadership ensures we will keep that commitment.” |
