Emory News Center: Emory Community Compact: Meet students and staff helping Emory beat COVID-19 A diverse team of Campus Life staff in Residence Life, including recent graduates and current students, works around the clock in residence halls, common areas, indoors and outdoors, to remind students to uphold Community Compact guidelines to protect one another and keep the campus open. Skitfest stands in for Songfest this year, Oct. 23 SkitFest 2020, a spinoff of Emory’s beloved Songfest tradition. The event will feature video performances from all first-year residence halls and live judging from Emory VIPS, including President Fenves, Interim Provost Love, and Campus Life’s Dean Gelaye. Join us at SkitFest 2020 for a night of friendly competition and find out which residence hall will be named champion. Emory announces plan for spring 2021 semester President Fenves made the announcement on October 15 and noted that Emory is “already looking ahead to the summer session and fall semester 2021.”
Emory Athletics update for spring 2021 A working group is exploring the reintroduction of intercollegiate athletics, club sports, and intramurals on campus consistent with the university’s public health and safety guidelines and expectations.
Emory offers ACLU-led free speech workshop for faculty/staff, Oct. 29 The online free speech workshop for faculty and staff is one of four in the series, Navigating First Amendment Student Rights and Engagement: Conversations with Emerson Sykes and Emory, October 27-30. Each workshop explores common controversies around free speech, including ways to navigate free speech situations on campus. The workshop also examines issues helpful to faculty and staff, including what they can do to support first amendment rights and student engagement in activist work. Facilitators: Emerson Sykes, ACLU attorney; Carol Henderson, Emory’s chief diversity officer and vice provost; and Eric Weeks, director of the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence.
