Join Emory’s Twin Memorials dialogue and journey toward a more just community

Emory is committed to honoring and memorializing the untold experiences, stories, and contributions of enslaved individuals and their descendants who lived and worked on the university’s original campus in Oxford. Emory’s Twin Memorials Working Group is creating a plan for twin memorials that articulates and interconnects the shared histories of the Emory and Oxford campuses. To learn more about the complex history of Emory’s founding and participate in conceptualizing a design for the memorials, please register for the February 18 session. 

 

Emory junior’s debut novel showcases young Black Muslim women’s voices

Laila Sabreen has quietly been working on fiction projects while pursuing additional undergraduate research and community service. Her first novel, “You Truly Assumed,” debuted Feb. 8.

 

Junior Feminists Book Club returns

This weekly book club is for elementary school girls. Visit the Center for Women’s program and events page to learn more about the club. Register to participate. 

 

The Hatchery announces programs for February and March  

  • Human-Centered Design: Engage with innovators from Cox Enterprises, help improve their hiring process, and learn about Human-Centered Design and how you can use it in any profession or role. Feb. 25 at the Hatchery.

  • Write to Know You: Get to know yourself, the problems you want to tackle, and a group of like-minded people. Sessions begin week of Feb. 28.

  • Power Launch: Have an idea that's ready to go? This class is for you. Using the tools of Human-Centered Design, this flipped class provides guidance and momentum as you bring your ripe idea into reality. Sessions begin March 3.

Madi Heerdt leaves Emory but continues commitment to student affairs

Madi came to Emory in July 2021 and quickly became an important asset to the Sorority, Fraternity, and Residence Life team. During her time at Emory, Madi served as advisor for the Emory Panhellenic Council and as building supervisor for six buildings on Eagle Row. She will pursue a new role in student affairs at an institution closer to her family and home. Madi’s final day at Emory was Tuesday, Feb. 15.

 

Carson Banks serving as interim associate director for orientation and pre-orientation programs

In this role, Carson will manage the orientation leader and student coordinator experience/program. He will also play a key role in centralizing Emory's pre-orientation programs into a shared experience among the varied topics. Lastly, Carson will continue to supervise Anna Van Gurp and student intern Kaleolani Laymon. 

 

The 100 Senior Honorary is an award presented by the Emory Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Association. It recognizes the 100 most outstanding seniors in Oxford College, Emory College, Goizueta Business School, and School of Nursing. The students selected have made a significant impact on the Emory Community through academics, athletics, leadership, volunteerism, or even through personal relationships such as mentoring or helping other students. Learn more about the 100 honorees, including student staff, 11 student-athletes, and other students with direct connections to Campus Life.
