SCOE’s Luis Pastore-Manzano is leaving Emory
Luis Pastore-Manzano (he/him/his) joined the Campus Life family in 2019 as a member of the student staff at the Emory Student Center information desk. From there, he advanced to production assistant, student building manager, and eventually student staff lead. After graduation in spring 2023, Pastore-Manzano accepted a professional staff position as a project assistant, reporting to

Jackie Grinvalds, director of Student Center Operations and Events (SCOE). Pastore-Manzano has enjoyed learning about SCOE and careers in higher education. He appreciates also the opportunity to expand his professional skills and contribute to Campus Life’s ongoing commitment to student-centered service. He is particularly grateful to SCOE for recognizing his potential and giving him the opportunity to serve in a professional role. Cox Hall Identity Spaces wins ACUI 2024 Facility Design Award for project under $25M category
"Emory University’s Identity Spaces project revitalized and reimagined the affinity group spaces, establishing welcoming and inclusive environments reflective of the unique groups’ cultures. The two-phase process significantly upgraded Emory’s Belonging and Community Justice spaces to create a more just and equitable campus where all students thrive. The $9.8 million project renovating 18,500 square feet was completed in September 2023," wrote the Association of College Unions International. "The ACUI Facility Design Awards were created to encourage and recognize excellence in the design of student-centered facilities that support campus community building and student learning."

EVI needs volunteers for on-campus polling site
The Emory Votes Initiative (EVI) is looking for volunteers to support the DeKalb County polling site located on Emory’s Atlanta campus for the 2024 Georgia State Elections. Early voting runs April 29 through May 17 and Election Day is May 21. EVI will provide additional information about upcoming elections throughout the year. Learn more and signup.

TRHT Racial Healing Circle new facilitator training
Join your colleagues for an interactive training experience and acquire the skills and mindset to facilitate racial healing circles, navigate difficult dialogues, and engage in courageous conversations about centering humanity to foster collective change. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner looking to deepen your facilitation skillset or a newcomer eager to make a difference, this training session offers a supportive and empowering space to learn, grow, and transform. Objectives:
- Introduce participants to transformative power of racial healing circles.
- Introduce strategies for building community, fostering collaboration, and mobilizing collective action in co-creating human-centered spaces.
- Discuss and evaluate importance of emotionally intelligent facilitation in creating a supportive environment where participants feel heard, valued, and respected.
- Prioritize importance of well-being, self-care, and personal growth as a facilitator.

National Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon
Emory Campus Life administrative professionals celebrated National Administrative Professionals Day with a luncheon on Wednesday, April 24. The occasion recognizes the work of administrative professionals and their essential role in all sectors of the modern economy worldwide. The group enjoyed outstanding speakers, a delicious banquet, gifts and were offered free massages.
“We are very fortunate in Campus Life to have this extraordinary team of administrative professionals. These colleagues support their home departments and, in many cases, also assist students and external customers,” said Mekeshua North, HR director for Campus Life. “I am so happy we have this opportunity to honor them for the vital role they play in carrying on Campus Life's commitment to the highest standards of excellence in service to our students.”
Hosted at the Carlos Museum, the event featured two inspiring guest speakers. Lydia Washington, Campus Life’s executive director of Student Centers, shared her expertise in integrated leadership and strategic visioning as it relates to student engagement and civic and community services. Clevevoya D. Gaston, outreach coordinator for the Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), brought insights into the value of human connections through the understanding and promotion of emotional, behavioral, and workplace health. Three Eagles chosen as NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients
The three chosen for the scholarship are women's basketball standout Claire Brock and swimming stalwarts Caroline Maki and Sloane Donovan. The award, which is a $10,000 scholarship that can be applied toward their current or future graduate degree programs, is annually bestowed upon student-athletes who excel academically and athletically while also serving as leaders in the community.

Meet neurosurgeon Dr. Kimberly Hoang. This week’s episode of Your Fantastic Mind is shedding light on her multifaceted roles as a physician scientist. Dr. Hoang splits her time in surgery, as well as in the lab looking for important breakthroughs to help in the treatment of brain tumors.
