Cipro edges out Ollie as Emory’s Favorite Pet 2021 After several rounds of intense competition between Staff Fest’s Dooley and Swoop Divisions, the field of 120 talented feline and canine competitors was narrowed to two finalists. The winner is Cipro, sponsored by the pooch’s best friend Natashia Hopkins, Campus Life (pictured above). The Victory Institute is recruiting outstanding LGBTQ college students for a 10-week intensive leadership program, including a Congressional internship with an LGBTQ-friendly member of Congress, weekly leadership development, and mentorship. The program includes a generous stipend, housing in D.C., and travel to/from Washington, as well as travel and registration to the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference in December 2021. CCE announces 2021 award recipients The Center for Civic and Community Engagement announced the recipients of the 2021 Civic and Community Engagement Awards. The awards recognize significant contributions by Emory’s community partners, community educators, and university faculty and staff to the fulfillment of the institution’s mission “to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity.” View names of award recipients, including a Campus Life staff member.
OSRL provides list of religious holidays Provided by the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL), the list is accompanied by a message from Greg McGonigle, dean of religious life and university chaplain. It includes selected major Hindu, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim holidays that will occur in the 2021-22 academic year. The goal is avoid scheduling conflicts that could impact large populations in the campus community. Read more.
Symposium on race: Call for proposals The call for proposals is open for the symposium, “In the Wake of Slavery and Dispossession: Emory, Racism, and the Journey Towards Restorative Justice,” September 29 through October 1. Emory will host the event to highlight ongoing work in these areas, encourage creative interpretations and dialogue, and explore Emory’s legacy of slavery and racism and its lasting effects.
