Open Expression Observers Program invites volunteer applications Emory's Respect for Open Expression Policy was implemented in 2013 to affirm the university’s commitment to open expression while acknowledging challenges associated with this commitment in an ever-changing university community. The Open Expression Observers (OEOs) program, coordinated by Campus Life and led by program director Lisa Loveall, helps to actualize the policy by recruiting and training staff and faculty volunteers as observers. These trained volunteers attend demonstrations, debates and high-profile events to help support the rights of all community members to express their views in the ways outlined in the Respect for Open Expression Policy. Interested in serving the university in this way? Sign up no later than Thursday, August 15.

CLTS update: AI solutions for higher education On June 24, EDUCAUSE hosted a demonstration day featuring eight corporate solution providers and their AI applications. The applications provide students, instructors, and administrators in higher education with advanced web search engines, enhanced chatbots, powerful data analytics platforms, generative and creative tools within an LMS, AI for IT networking operations, and more to enhance performance and utilization in day-to-day tasks. To learn more about how vendors are creating AI solutions for higher education, click here to review a summary and a recording of each AI application that was demonstrated. If your department is considering AI functionality with existing or upcoming software platforms, please submit a ticket to consult with the Campus Life Technical Services (CLTS) team as most AI solutions require vetting through multiple areas of the university.
