Tereza Lewis joins CCE The Center for Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) has named Tereza Lewis as the new associate director of civic engagement and Emory Votes Initiative (EVI), reporting to James Roland, CCE’s senior director. In her role as associate director, Lewis will build EVI's solid foundation. An international elections analyst and expert, Lewis has served on more than 15 election missions with various organizations, including the Carter Center and the European Union.

She has worked with Brown University on the Brown Votes Initiative, with a lead election judge in Denver, and most recently as a senior reporting officer for the European Union. Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Charles University and a master's in African politics from the University of Hradec Králové. Both institutions are in the Czech Republic. Lewis also has professional training and certifications in mediation, dialogue, and conflict analysis. Lewis enjoys nature, painting, poetry, spending time with her two lovely cats and “one fabulous husband.” You can welcome Tereza at tereza.lewis@emory.edu.

Victoria Alarcon leaving Emory Campus Life’s coordinator for Centro Latinx, Victoria Alarcon (they/them) 19C, is leaving Emory to pursue a master’s degree at Georgia State University. Alarcon, who reports to Centro Latinx director Denise Ocasio Thomas, joined Campus Life’s Office for Racial and Cultural Engagement (RACE) in spring 2022. They have played a key role in the development and execution of a range of Centro Latinx and Belonging and

Community Justice (BCJ) programs and initiatives. The best part of their work, says Alarcon, has been connecting with students and the Latinx community across campus and seeing Centro Latinx and its community grow. A small farewell gathering is planned for Alarcon’s last day in the office, Friday, August 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Centro Latinx to celebrate and wish them well in their future endeavors. HR update: Roadmap to Paycheck – Campus Life Student Employee New Hire Sessions for students Campus Life Human Resources has announced Roadmap to Paycheck – Campus Life Student Employee Onboarding sessions to streamline the onboarding process for student hires. Student employees can bring their hiring documents, receive orientation support, and ensure they are ready to undertake their roles. Sessions will be offered from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Emory Student Center, room N302, on the following dates. No registration required:
- Tuesday, August 20
- Thursday, August 22
- Monday, August 26
- Thursday, September 5
Hiring managers should encourage your new student hires to attend these sessions to ensure they are well-prepared for a successful start with your department. Please provide them with the Student Employment Checklist, which outlines all the necessary steps and documents for a smooth onboarding process. Documents can also be collected at other times and dates. Contact Campus Life HR at dclhr@emory.edu to schedule an alternate time for document collection.

Student Employment Fair The Federal Work Study (FWS) Fair is now the Student Employment Fair, open to both FWS and non-FWS positions. This new format offers Emory offers staff the opportunity to engage with a broader pool of students seeking on-campus employment. The change was recommended by the First-Year Curriculum Committee, based on consistent student feedback that students (30-40%) in our incoming class are interested in on-campus employment. A table and two chairs are provided for prospective employers, who should bring: tablecloths, signs/banners, candy/snacks, and hardcopies of job descriptions and other promotional materials. The event will be hosted on Friday, August 30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Emory Student Center. Departments interested in tabling should RSVP by August 19.
