Oxford College Campus Update: August 12 Check out what’s happening at Oxford College. In this issue, Oxford was named 2019 Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, a national organization that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
New Campus Life working group will enhance visibility of racial justice programs The Campus Climate and Racial Justice Working Group is kicking off its plans with a review of programs in Campus Life and throughout the university. The working group requests Campus Life departments and programs to review and share their plans for racial justice-related events and programs for fall or spring semester – even if the plans are tentative.

Virtual Book Club: Join the conversation Read and share your thoughts on The Privileged Poor, by Anthony Abraham Jack. The book club is presented by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Office of Undergraduate Affairs is hosting Dr. Jack at Emory in February as part of the focus on the first-generation experience. Emory News Center: Emory’s national election experts react to Joe Biden’s vice-presidential pick ECL’s Ed Lee, senior director of the Alben W. Barkley Forum for Debate, Deliberation, and Dialogue, is quoted.
Use technology for mini family reunions: Tip from ECL’s James Roland Every month or two, James Roland’s extended family connects via conference call. Dozens of relatives across multiple states greet one another virtually. Telephone conference calls don’t require the technical knowledge or equipment of online visual platforms that some family members, especially seniors, may not possess. However, visual technology may work for other families in different circumstances, noted James, who is senior director of Civic and Community Engagement (CCE).
