Welcome to the fall semester, from Dean Gelaye
Along with the cooler temperatures during move-in, I am starting this semester filled with a fresh enthusiasm for our work and a deep appreciation for the dedication of this team. Seeing the pure joy on our new and returning students’ faces as they cheer on one another, make connections and explore campus fuels our efforts.
To get to this point – the first day of classes – significant and intentional work took place to ensure a warm, healthy and engaging environment for students to flourish. I’m incredibly grateful for your creativity, commitment and care in moving forward projects and initiatives that elevate and expand the Emory student experience.

American missionary Dr. Kent Brantly contracted the illness while treating patients in Liberia. Emory’s decision to care for Brantly and other patients with Ebola virus disease propelled the university into the international spotlight and began a journey of clinical treatment, research and education that continues to this day. Look back at the emotional press conference where Brantly thanked the Emory team for caring for him “with expertise, yet with tenderness and compassion.” Read Emory News Center’s Aug. 21, 2014 story.
