Update on actions Emory is taking for racial justice

Election 2020 Toolkit offers range of resources for Emory community

With less than a week until Election Day, Emory strongly encourages you to exercise your right to vote by absentee ballot, in person during early voting through October 30, or in person on Election Day, November 3. The Election 2020 Toolkit provides selfcare resources to help employees manage election-related stress, resources for supervisors, and Emory policy reminders.

 

EmoryTogether Fund is now accepting applications 

To help students experiencing financial hardship directly related to the impact of COVID-19, the EmoryTogether Fund is accepting applications for fall semester and winter break assistance. The fund was created to help degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who meet the eligibility requirements. Awards are intended to assist with eligible expenses but may not cover 100 percent of students' needs. Most awards are between $50 and $500. Students may request EmoryTogether Fund assistance once per semester. 

 

Thursday, Oct. 29: Emory offers ACLU-led free speech workshop for faculty/staff

The online free speech workshop for faculty and staff, offered at no charge, is one of four in the series, Navigating First Amendment Student Rights and Engagement: Conversations with Emerson Sykes and Emory, October 27-30. This session explores common controversies associated with free speech and provides insights helpful to faculty and staff. Facilitators: Emerson Sykes, ACLU attorney; Carol Henderson, Emory’s vice provost and chief diversity officer; and Eric Weeks, director of the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence. Campus Life and Academic Affairs continue collaboration

  • Leadership Assistant Leadership Development Program: Student Involvement, Leadership, and Transitions (SILT), in collaboration with the chemistry and biology departments, is offering a leadership development program for student learning assistants in these two departments.
  • PACE 101 Leadership Workshops: Each year, PACE 101 requires first-year students to complete out-of-class activities to pass the course. SILT has offered four such workshops to provide students with opportunities for virtual engagement, self-reflection, and leadership development. 

Fellowship applications are open

The Woodruff and Whitehead Foundation Fellowship is open for applications, with an information session on Tuesday, October 27, at 4:30 p.m. Register here or contact Kate Grace at kdgrace@emory.edu for more information. In addition, information on the Truman Fellowship, is available here.

Emory Chapter of NAACP awarded grant

After being awarded an MTV early voting grant, the Emory Chapter of the NAACP recently provided students with resources to support absentee and in-person voting. The chapter delivered applications, envelopes, and postage to the doors of absentee voters and provided vouchers to reduce by 99 percent the cost of transportation to polling places.

Enjoy a variety of creative student video performances as first-year residence halls compete for Skitfest 2020 honors. Live judging is provided by President Fenves, Dean Gelaye, and other Emory VIPS. The event, hosted last week, is a spinoff of Emory’s beloved Songfest tradition.
