Luis Alvarez-Hernandez joined the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team in June as a staff clinician. Most recently a member of the Grady Health System staff, he is a certified anger management specialist and native Spanish speaker. Luis earned his Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Georgia.

Brandi Benton is the new community well-being health promotion specialist in the Office of Health Promotion. In that role, she will champion Emory’s efforts to mitigate high-risk alcohol use and drug abuse/misuse. Brandi served most recently as a health educator for Georgia Perimeter Campuses of Georgia State University. She received her MPH in Behavioral Science and Health Education from St. Louis University.

David Clark joins Campus Life this summer as associate vice president for finance, administration and operations. His responsibilities include providing strategic direction and oversight for Housing, Dining, Bookstore and Technical Relations, University Center, Finance Service Center, Human Resources, Ombudsperson, and Learning and Innovation. He served most recently as assistant vice president for campus life and associate dean in the college at the University of Chicago. David holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Scott Hackett joined the Residence Life team in June as complex director for Clairmont Tower and Clairmont Residential Center (CRC) buildings E and F. During the past two years, he served as assistant residence hall director while completing his master’s in higher education administration and student personnel at Kent State University.

Bridget Guernsey Riordan was honored by Alpha Chi Omega National Fraternity with a 2016 Award of Achievement. The award recognizes outstanding alumnae who have made significant contributions resulting in national recognition in their chosen fields. 

Mark Seals II joined Emory Campus Life in July as assistant director for Emory Dining after serving as operations manager for Sodexo, overseeing Delta Sky Clubs at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Mark holds a bachelor’s in hotel administration from Cornell and an associate’s in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America.

Max Wright accepted the Housing Operations position of assistant director of facilities and operations. Most recently, he served on the facilities management team at Kansas State University, where he earned a master’s in college student development.

Changes in Community and Athletics

In the next phase of the organizational restructuring initiated in 2015 with the transfer of Recreation and Wellness to the Community Portfolio, the following developments have been announced, effective June 19:

Timber Hines has been appointed to the new position of senior director for recreation and athletics facilities to oversee the intersections of facilities, operations, and programming. She now has a joint reporting line to Suzanne Onorato, AVP for community, and Mike Vienna, athletics director, and serves on both the Athletics and Communityleadership teams. 

April Flint will continue to serve as director for Recreation and Wellness, providing leadership for these programs and curricular components and reporting to Timber Hines. 

Joyce Jaleel has moved to the position of senior director of athletics/senior women’s administrator with Athletics. She will provide supervision for the assistant athletics director for student-athlete success and compliance, including the Eagle Edge Peak Performance Program, Sports Medicine Program, Strength and Conditioning Program, and office administration and departmental administrative assistant.
