Reminder from Financial Services: End of fiscal year deadlines
The end of fiscal year 2022 is quickly approaching, and the Campus Life Finance Service Center is preparing to close out expenses, billings, and budgets. Campus Life staff are advised to plan corporate card and P-card purchases prior to August 23 so their expenses can post to the correct budget year. Please review this

Zoom meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. It is open to all Campus Life employees to discuss these important deadlines. A calendar invite has also been sent out in an all-staff email.

SCOE announces interim staffing updates
Student Center Operations and Events (SCOE) has announced several interim staffing updates. Jackie Grinvalds,
recently named director of SCOE, will begin maternity leave in August. Effective immediately, Paul Eleazer will serve as interim associate director of SCOE. In this role, he will supervise meeting services, operations, and the marketing intern. Paul will continue his duties as manager of audiovisual production, including leading a search to fill the new position of AV technician. Bob Crowder will be the main contact for several projects, including the Cox Hall student identity spaces construction project, that he and Ben Perlman jointly oversaw and others that may arise. When Jackie goes on leave, Bob will supervise the office manager position, in addition to his team and other responsibilities of his role as assistant director of facilities. David Clark will provide overall leadership for SCOE during this time. Meanwhile, a search is underway to fill the new position of
executive director of student centers as soon as possible.

Professor Pearl Dowe selected as vice provost for faculty affairs
Pearl Dowe has been selected as the next vice provost for faculty affairs, Ravi V. Bellamkonda, Emory University provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, announced today. Dowe, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies, will succeed Tim Holbrook, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law, on Jan. 1, 2023.

Carla Freeman selected as interim dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences
Carla S. Freeman, executive associate dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences and Goodrich C. White Professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, will serve as interim dean of Emory College, says Ravi V. Bellamkonda, Emory University provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. On Aug. 1, 2022, she will succeed Michael A. Elliott as he leaves to assume the presidency of Amherst College.

Welcome the entire Class of 2026 as they walk through the iconic Haygood-Hopkins gate to mark the beginning of their Emory journey. Staff, faculty, students, and alumni are invited to line the walkway between the gate and quad to cheer and create a welcome to remember. You are invited to stay for the Coke Toast with President Fenves on the Quad immediately following the procession.

Ed Lee moves to ECAS, retains Barkley Forum ties; Mikaela Malsin to lead forum
On August 22, Ed Lee III, senior director of the Alben W. Barkley Forum, will become senior director of inclusivity for the Emory College of Arts and Sciences (ECAS). In his new position, Ed will focus on developing bottom-up approaches to cultivate more diverse, equitable, and inclusive academic communities. Mikaela Malsin, director of debate, will assume leadership of the Barkley Forum's student engagement efforts, nationally renowned competitive debate team, and highly innovative dialogue programs. Mikaela is an Emory and Barkley Forum alumna who has earned numerous awards for her coaching excellence.

New executive director of CAPS to join Campus Life in August
Emory University’s division of Campus Life has named G. Keilan Rickard as executive director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Keilan brings 18 years of counseling and leadership experience to his new role, which includes supervising CAPS’ mental health providers, administrative staff, graduate interns, and post-graduate trainees. As a member of the Health and Well-being Leadership Team, he will report to James Raper, associate vice president of health, well-being, access, and prevention. Keilan will officially join the Emory community on August 16.

The next elite business school: A new dean’s plans for Goizueta
In the past few months, Gareth James estimates that he’s had more than 150 meetings with faculty, donors, alumni, parents, and universities leadership about his new role as dean of Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
He was announced as the incoming dean in February, and formally took the post on July 1. Beyond feeling very optimistic about the school’s future, James says his new role as Goizueta’s dean also is exciting on a personal level.

Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Campus Center videos
Supported by a grant from the National Collaborative for Health Equity (NCHE), AAC&U worked with eight TRHT Campus Centers to produce a collection of captivating videos that showcase some of the innovative ways in which the TRHT Framework is being translated and implemented into practice at institutions across the nation. The following videos focus on a specific pillar of the TRHT Framework (narrative change, racial healing and relationship building, separation, law, and economy) or describe visioning work that is grounded in the TRHT Framework.
