CAPS) recently hired several new professionals to further enhance the organization’s exceptional support for Emory students. New team members appeared in the October 4 and October 11 issues of

report to Tenille Reena Gaines, PhD,
executive
director of CAPS.

Karia Kelch-Oliver, PhD (she/her/hers),
is a psychologist with CAPS in partnership with the School of Medicine to provide counseling to medical and health sciences students. Licensed
as a psychologist and as a marriage and family therapist, Kelch-Oliver served previously with Kaiser Permanente of Georgia. Earlier, she was assistant professor and psychologist at Morehouse School of Medicine. Kelch-Oliver holds a PhD in counseling psychology from Georgia State

|
University, master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Maryland, College Park, and bachelor’s in psychology from Howard University. She enjoys nature walks, reading memoirs and autobiographies, and shopping for "hidden treasures" in thrift and discount stores. You can send Karia a greeting at

Alexandra Scott, PsyD (she/her/hers), has joined the CAPS team as a psychologist, providing therapy, outreach, and mental health support to Emory students. Most recently, she was in private practice in Long Beach, California, and, before becoming a psychologist, she was a career advisor in student affairs with Duke University. A licensed psychologist in California, Scott holds a PsyD from Fuller Theological

Seminary and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in liberal studies and psychology, respectively, from Georgetown University. Submit your application: Leadership development programs
Applications are invited for the Learning and Organizational Development Leadership Development programs listed below. All applications must be submitted directly to Campus Life Human Relations. The internal review team will make recommendations on which applicants to officially nominate. Applications sent directly to Emory HR will not be considered.
Applicants should be aware that participants must attend every session. Completed applications must be submitted directly to Campus Life HR at
CLDE@emory.edu by Tuesday, October 31. Campus Life HR will forward approved applications to Emory HR.

Barkley Forum debaters compete in University of Kentucky tournament
Emory's Barkley Forum took 13 two-person partnerships to the Patterson Debates at the
University of Kentucky tournament, September 27 through October 2. A total of 138 partnerships from 35 schools competed. Tournament novice division first place went to two
sophomores who attended Emory's Oxford College,
Dantrell Cheng and
Emma Chen. Junior
Dylan Liu and sophomore
Madeleine Pelli (pictured L-R) were among four partnerships in the tournament’s junior varsity division semi-finals.
In the open/varsity division, senior
Henry Mitchell and junior
Bella Piekut reached the octafinals as one of the top 16 partnerships. Seniors
Grace Kessler and
Shreyas Rajagopal competed in the quarterfinals as one of the top eight partnerships. Kessler was named third overall speaker in a field of 202 students, and Mitchell was named 11th.
Before the Paterson Debates, Kessler and Rajagopal competed in the university's Run for the Roses, an invitational round robin for the top seven ranked debate partnerships in the country. The Eagles finished this prestigious competition with a 3-3 record. Learn more about Emory's

Graduating seniors are invited to apply for Bobby Jones Scholarship
Apply for a fully-paid year of study to attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland. St Andrews was recently ranked as the top university in the UK, with top programs in chemistry, economics, English, history, and international relations.
The Robert T. Jones, Jr. Scholarship is a university-wide scholarship that is open to graduating seniors in any school who will have earned a bachelor's degree by fall 2024.
Applications will
open on October 23, 2024. If If you plan to apply, consider attending one of the information sessions.
