A Call for Compassion from Rabbi Jordan Braunig, Dr. Isam Vaid Dear Members of the Emory Community,
Greetings of peace. In this time of deep loss, grief, ongoing bloodshed, and hurt, we write to you as leaders within the interfaith community at our Emory. At moments such as this, let us avoid the vilification and polarization that have long plagued our society, take good care of each other, affirm each other’s dignity, and find ways to be in conversation across difference.... The conflict in Israel and Palestine has triggered incidents of Islamophobia, Antisemitism, and Anti-Arab bias, across our country and across the globe.... Our hope is that Emory will be a place where hatred, prejudice, bias, and bigotry find no foothold.
Read full message from Rabbi Jordan Braunig, Jewish Chaplain, and Dr. Isam Vaid, Muslim Religious Life Scholar. For more information on an OSRL-facilitated, reflective conversation across differences about the war and its impacts, please submit this form.

Open Expression Observers Program invites volunteer applications
Emory's Respect for Open Expression Policy (8.14) was implemented in 2013 to affirm the university’s commitment to open expression, while acknowledging the challenges associated with this commitment in an ever-changing university community. The Open Expression Observers Program, coordinated by Campus Life, helps to actualize the policy by recruiting and training staff and faculty volunteers as Open Expression Observers (OEOs). These volunteers attend demonstrations, debates, and high-profile events to help support the rights of all community members to express their views in the ways outlined in the Respect for Open Expression Policy. Learn more about the OEO Program here. Sign up to volunteer and support Open Expression here. Direct questions to Courtnay Oddman, coddman@emory.edu.

EPD invites you to share your voice today: Complete Emory’s 2023 Safety Survey
The Emory Police Department’s partnership with the university community is essential. Community input from previous Safety Surveys have produced changes. For example, EPD launched a community partnership advisory group that includes students, faculty and staff to address key issues; invited Emory students, faculty and staff to participate in hiring and promotion assessments for department personnel; and expanded training to include information on procedural justice and duty to intervene.
All responses are confidential, and participation is voluntary for this survey, which is administered independently by Emory’s Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS). Also, EPD offers survey respondents a chance to win one of eight $50 Amazon gift cards. Take the survey today. Deadline is November 20. (Enter your NetID, using all caps. Need help obtaining your NetID? Click here.)
