The start of Emory’s new academic year is just around the corner, with faculty and staff across campus making final preparations for the arrival of students. Here are 10 things you need to know as the Atlanta and Oxford campuses transition from summer to fall.

Welcome the Class of 2027 at the Emory Gate Crossing + Coke Toast
The Emory community is invited to applaud and cheer as new students process from the Emory Haygood-Hopkins Gate to the Quad, making this a welcoming tradition to remember.
After the procession, join the Coke Toast on the Quad with President Fenves. The event is scheduled for
Monday, August 21, from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Please arrive by 11:15 a.m. to find a place on the brick sidewalk between the Emory Gate and the Quad.
The student procession will begin at 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will be available to assist.

Student Involvement Fair helps students to connect with other students and student organizations
The Student Involvement Fair is a space for students to connect around their interests and explore the multitude of student-led engagement opportunities across campus. The event runs Monday through Wednesday, August 28-30, from 8 to 10 p.m. each night on McDonough Field. Hosted by Campus Life's Student Involvement Leadership and Transitions (SILT).

Registered student organizations seeking to host a table must have an active, up-to-date portal on the Hub, including contact information. Organizations
must register
to host a table before the deadline on Wednesday, August 23, at 11:59 p.m.

Danielle Mitchell-Damron joins Campus Life as director, special projects
With a diverse background that includes more than a decade in higher education, Danielle “Dani” Mitchell-Damron, PhD (she/her) has been appointed director of special projects, a recently created role with a primary focus on Campus Life’s student flourishing objectives. She works closely with and reports to Kristina Bethea Odejimi, EdD, associate vice president for belonging, engagement and community and dean of students (AVP/DOS). Mitchell-Damron supports the AVP/DOS in key areas, including, but not limited to, strategic initiatives, planning and policy development. The director’s responsibilities include development, leadership and oversight of new and emerging programmatic and strategic efforts focused on student belonging, engagement and community. She will also build support and resources for graduate and professional students – and lead evaluation of the portfolio’s programs to ensure they meet students’ needs. Brian Pirapakaran moves to CCE as associate director, special projects and strategic outreach
The new associate director of special projects and strategic outreach for Campus Life's Center for Civic and Community Engagement is Brian Pirapakaran (he/him), reporting to James Roland, CCE’s senior director. Responsibilities of the position include developing a strategic plan for CCE and creating systems and processes to streamline programs and services for students. Pirapakaran will lead special projects that further student flourishing, which is at the core of Campus Life’s mission. He served most recently as Residence Life’s complex director for the Undergraduate Residential Center apartments on Clairmont Campus. He holds a master’s in education with a concentration in student affairs and a bachelor’s in political science. Pirapakaran’s leisure interests include traveling, chess, reading, and working out at the gym. You can congratulate Brian at

Campus Life Kickoff Breakfast: Wednesday, August 30
Please mark your calendars for the Campus Life Fall Kickoff Breakfast on Wednesday, August 30 from 9 - 11 a.m. in the ESC Multipurpose Room. There will be food, fun and fellowship as we embark on a new year. In addition, our photographer will be back to take headshots for staff who missed or need to reschedule from the earlier session. Details for signing up will be shared soon.

Now open: SAAC’s renovated Clairmont Café offers new takeout window, wider variety of grab and go items
The Clairmont Café in the Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC) was fully renovated over the summer to provide an enhanced ordering experience complete with a new takeout window and additional shelving space to provide a wider variety of grab and go options. From flatbreads and salads to burgers and sandwiches, the Clairmont Café has many made-to-order offerings. All tenders are accepted, including meal exchange, Dooley Dollars and Eagle Dollars.
